A major industrial development is currently underway in Kętrzyn, located in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship of northeastern Poland. On the grounds of the former sugar factory, a state-of-the-art oil pressing plant is being built by Orlen Południe. The total investment amounts to approximately 850 million PLN.

The facility is designed to process up to 200,000 tonnes of oil annually, significantly contributing to the region’s agri-food sector. The construction is scheduled for completion in autumn 2026 and is expected to create around 100 permanent jobs, while also offering additional economic opportunities to local service providers and suppliers.

This comprehensive project is being implemented as a turnkey investment by the consortium of Polimex Mostostal and AB Industry, in cooperation with Desmet N.V., which will deliver the core extraction technology and handle commissioning and personnel training. The scope of work also includes building supporting infrastructure such as access roads and a railway connection.

The mayor of Kętrzyn, Karol Lizurej, has emphasized the strategic importance of this project for the city. Although the municipality is not a direct investor, it supports the initiative through administrative facilitation and regular consultations with the contractors. The investment is expected to enhance local economic growth, create new development prospects, and increase the city’s tax revenues.
